Vol 4, No 2 (2015): Representations of Resistance

"Safe Zone" by Sachi Stovall. Acrylic Paint and Black Paint Pen on Paper, 2015.

From the artist's statement: "This painting is, in many ways a reflection of myself. [...] As I continue my life journey in finding out who I am, I've realized that I am a true believer in purity and realness. This is the reason why I chose a nude painting. [...] I'm learning to love my soul and not the shell that I am in."

Vol 1, No 2 (2011): On the Idea of a University

This Special Issue explores the theme of the university. ASPECT Program students respond to an essay by Dr. Joseph Pitt (Professor of Philosophy, Virginia Tech) entitled “On the Idea of a University.” ASPECT student Jordan Hill is the Guest Editor for this Special Issue. He took the lead in coordinating the various essays.

Vol 1, No 1 (2011): Inaugural Issue

The inaugural issue (Volume 1, Issue 1) of SPECTRA is dedicated to showcasing an array of research from students from Virginia Tech. As such, topics in this issue provide insight into the depth and breadth of research that is being undertaken in affiliation with the ASPECT program. Diverse subjects are tackled in this issue rather than looking at one topic in particular. The issues addressed include the production of knowledge, the relationship between heritage and memory, liberation theology and neoliberalism, power and democracy, as well as an exploration of risk and danger are featured in this opening issue. We invite you to join the conversation and offer your perspective and insight on these topics.
